Fossil powers and desert storms are the theme of the Pokémon EX Sandstorm Booster Box, the second expansion in the EX series released by Pokémon USA in September 2003. The set contains 100 cards and builds on the innovations of Ruby & Sapphire, while adding its own unique twist: for the first time, Pokémon could evolve into a Pokémon-EX, and with the introduction of Link Attacks, players could combine the power of two Pokémon into a single devastating attack.

Among the seven Pokémon-ex in this set, Wailord ex immediately stands out—it was the very first card in the history of the Pokémon TCG with 200 HP, a milestone that was unheard of at the time. The set also includes sought-after cards such as Raichu EX, Aerodactyl EX, and Aggron EX. Each booster box contains 36 packs of 9 cards each, featuring four different pack artworks depicting Dusclops, Seviper, Shiftry, and Zangoose. The set symbol—two fossils—refers to the Root Fossil and Claw Fossil from the Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire video games. As with previous EX sets, the print run remained limited, making sealed copies scarce and causing their value to continue rising among collectors of early EX series products.
