The Pokémon Aquapolis Abyss Theme Deck was released on January 15, 2003, and is part of the special e-Card Series from the Wizards of the Coast era. Abyss contains a pre-built deck of 60 cards and primarily combines Water- and Fire-type Pokémon. The decklist includes Kingdra, Ninetales, Porygon2, Horsea, Seadra, Vulpix, Tentacool, and Houndour, supplemented by Trainer cards and Water and Fire Energy. Unlike many earlier Theme Decks, Abyss does not feature a specific holographic Pokémon as its centerpiece: each box additionally contained a random Reverse Holo from Aquapolis, meaning there could be a total of 61 cards in the package.
In addition to the card deck, Abyss originally came with a metal Pikachu coin, damage counters, markers, an Aquapolis card checklist, and a Pokémon TCG rulebook. Together with Rock Garden, Abyss formed the Aquapolis Theme Deck duo, a set that now holds a prominent position within the vintage Pokémon segment. The distinctive e-Card design, the random Reverse Holo, and Aquapolis’s status as one of the last WOTC expansions make a sealed copy particularly interesting to collectors of Aquapolis, the e-Card Series, and vintage Pokémon products.
